CASE STUDIES

DB PET SITTER

DB Pet Sitter started as a passion project, combining a love for animals with a desire to provide high-quality pet care in Sioux City, Iowa. With no pre-existing brand or client base, the goal was to establish a reliable and recognizable business pet parents could depend on for everything from dog walks to overnight stays.

DB Pet Sitter’s design approach was inspired by the feeling of comfort, ease and quality you’d expect from someone who is watching your pets. I used this wholesome and warm feeling to inspire the custom watercolor pet illustrations, neutral - yet warm - color palette, and cute font.

Once the branding was established I created a logo, which played with negative space and utilized my initials as the perfect place for a paw print. I developed a website that showcases what makes my services unique and is optimized for SEO. I also post monthly blogs highlighting success stories, industry insight, and business updates. While developing the website, I crafted a friendly and approachable tone and identity that is cohesive on print and social. For my social media approach, I wanted it to be as hands on as possible. I post photos and videos real time, with captions focused around outcome and new clients.

I utilized my established clients to provide word-of-mouth referrals with the help of digital and social media accounts. I also run retargeting ads and boosted posts, resulting in increased leads and website clicks.

By focusing on detailed scheduling, providing personalized care, and ensuring seamless communication with pet parents DB Pet Sitter transformed from an idea into a thriving small business. I have created a loyal client base and a strong community presence in Sioux City. This success story is a testament to hard work, passion, ability to work independently, manage high-level projects, execute a brand across multiple areas, and utilize skills beyond design for marketing, social media, photography, videography, sales, and business growth.

THE 1930.

The 1930 was a philanthropic initiative at Briar Cliff University to create opportunities for female students by connecting them with empowered women in hopes of transforming the world. The 1930 also embraced and strengthened Briar Cliff’s history. Founded in 1930, Briar Cliff was the first in the area to offer a college education for females.

This initiative highlights my ability to work independently in a leadership role, manage multiple high-level projects, execute a brand across multiple platforms, and utilize skills beyond design for marketing, social media, photography, and videography. As co-lead, I acted as the marketing and creative director, developing branding, voice, and strategy for the project.

Inspired by Briar Cliff's past, the branding features original school colors, an aged typeface with modern flourishes, and editorialized photos of female ambassadors. You'll also notice the illustration of a female graduate on the iconic Briar Cliff stairs.

The process for this project involved working directly with the president, cabinet, fundraising and community members, producing and implementing branding, directing a photoshoot and 3 video shoots, and creating collateral for print, digital and events.

YOU MATTER.

My design approach was inspired by the tagline "You Matter" - and the students Briar Cliff wanted to attract. I used it as a tool to create visuals which showcased aspects of the university that matter to an incoming student. One of my main features is the imagery/visuals. - I used pictures with bright blue skies, students in innovative learning environments and elements that allow copy and images to flow together. I wanted the search piece and the campaign to be totally different from our competitors and any previous campaigns.

The "You Matter" campaign as a whole  involved implementing the branding in a very quick time;  immediate first touch pieces were produced and distributed within 3 months, and the total campaign within 1 year. I directed 5 additional photo and video shoots, created custom illustrations and produced over 1,500 admissions materials (including print, digital and emails). As the sole designer, I had to be independent and strong in my ability to see a project from start to finish. Leadership and my team gave me total freedom to manage project timelines, communicate with stakeholders, and make top-level design decisions that aligned with the project goals and target audience.

I balanced this autonomy with weekly team and stakeholder check-ins, this open line of communication allowed us to address challenges - like budget, deadline and misaligned visuals -  and find solutions - like adjusted copy, new photos, and layout changes.
